Maintenance Technician. Will work under the supervision of the Property Manager. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ongoing maintenance and repairs to residential units as well as to offices and public areas in the building. This position also includes preventive maintenance projects

Mon - Fri 8:30-5 1/2 hour lunch

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety procedures as directed by the Residential Property Manager
  • Perform maintenance duties for properties including:
  • Plumbing: un-clog sinks, toilets, showers and tubs; repair/replace toilets/faucets
  • Electrical: repair/replace broken switches/plugs; replace smoke detectors
  • Carpentry: repair/replace damaged wood trim; make doors/windows operable (including sash cords); repair/replace door/window hardware
  • Glazing: replace broken door/window glass
  • Painting: exterior and interior
  • Drywall repair
  • Carpet cleaning/shampooing
  • Unit turn-around overflow
  • Process maintenance work orders through completion
  • Assess material/supply needs, submit purchase requests or purchase supplies as needed
  • Assist Janitorial Staff in large scope projects and fill in for short term absences
  • Other tasks as assigned such as moving furniture, water clean-up, grounds maintenance
  • Complete daily work reports
  • Work at other properties as needed
  • Attend required Property Management and All Staff meetings and trainings

Qualifications

  • Commitment to working on issues related to homelessness
  • Must be able to sit & stand for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to lift 60lbs
  • Employee must be able to perform all functions of the position within what would be deemed a reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion practice

Skills

  • An understanding of major systems operations including fire/ life safety, boiler and heating
  • Comfort level and ability to navigate through property management software
  • Consideration will be given to the applicant’s experience with preventive maintenance experience working in the affordable housing environment
  • The ability to work independently
