Maintenance Supervisor

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Maintenance Supervisor directly supervises assigned hourly employees and operations to ensure safe operations, quality work, performance achievement standards, and work rules are followed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and directs the activities of the hourly employees in the maintenance department; leads work teams through example and motivation, instruction, coaching, discipline, and otherwise oversees employee work performance.
  • Resolves employee grievances to levels provided for within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate policies, plant rules, environmental and safety procedures, and laws.
  • Inspects and monitors work areas, examines tools and equipment, and provides employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
  • Coordinates with other departments to ensure completion of work orders, preventive maintenance, and proactive identification of equipment reliability issues.
  • Monitors employees’ work levels and reviews work performance.
  • Perform skilled repair or maintenance operations, using equipment such as hand or power tools, hydraulic presses or shears, or welding equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, electrical, industrial engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This position requires a minimum of three to five years of maintenance experience in heavy industry or manufacturing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. General knowledge of the inner workings of heavy industrial equipment reconditioning and repair.
  2. Ability to interpret drawings and use the required tools.
  3. Ability to speak and write English.
  4. Ability to effectively lead a team.
  5. Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, contractors, management, and employees.
  7. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems.
  8. Ability to gather information and perform root cause analysis and problem-solving.
  9. Computer literacy skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
