Maintenance Superintendent
The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the safe and efficient operations in planning, organizing and operating all aspects of the maintenance department in a team environment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager and working in close connection with the production team, the Maintenance Superintendent will provide direction and leadership to the maintenance crew.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategic
- Support and explore innovative ideas that further the organization’s strategic plan
- Plan, organize and operate all aspects of the maintenance department
- Supervise Maintenance Team Leaders, two Maintenance Planners and a Maintenance Clerk
- Responsible for developing future plans and goals for the Division including succession planning for the Maintenance Department
- Ensure established production and uptime levels are achieved within safety, budget cost and machine center uptime goals to ensure the plant is maintained to a high degree of efficiency
- Hire, train, develop and terminate hourly employees within guidelines
- Request equipment repair to ensure production is maintained
Operational
- Operate in a safe manner in accordance to work safe rules, regulations and policies
- Recognize and eliminate all safety hazards
- Train employees in safe working practices to ensure compliance with regulations and organization policies
- Support employee development of direct reports through coaching, feedback and performance management
- Conduct performance assessments as per the organization’s performance management model
- Budgeting, forecasting and expenditures relating to the maintenance of the facility
- Training of all maintenance staff and hourly personnel including apprentice trades people
- Assist in the preparation of capital plans and the responsibility for the implementation of those plans
- The maintenance and evolution of Computerized Maintenance Management
Continual Improvement
- Accountable for training and developing of all maintenance personnel by recommending upgrading programs and providing coaching as necessary
- Assist the Maintenance Manager in the fore planning of the operation by participating in development of long term recapitalization plans
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for the mill by providing continued direction to maintenance staff
- Manage cost control of the plant operations by investigating and approving spending programs for operating supplies, maintenance supplies and materials
- Accountable for the formulation and adherence to budget goals for spending which includes manpower, maintenance materials, and outside services
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- The position requires maintenance experience in a supervisory capacity and preferably in a continuous manufacturing environment
- Equipment operation, knowledge and maintenance skills and strong employee relation skills
- Displays a strong commitment towards safety
- Experience working effectively independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must be computer literate, and possess good analytical skills
Education
- Grade 12 or equivalent
Licenses and Certification
- Qualified tradesperson or engineer with knowledge of other related trades
Skills
- Able to lead diverse trades groups into a highly effective Maintenance Team by focusing on Maintenance Best Practices and a strong Quality Assurance Program
