Maintenance Manager

PURPOSE: The Maintenance Manager is focused on the day-to-day leadership and long-term strategy of the site's maintenance team which includes mechanical maintenance, electrical and Instrumentation, and the maintenance reliability departments (6 direct reports, 40 indirect reports). This position is a vital part of the site's leadership team and reports into the plant manager at this large tissue manufacturing and converting operation in the Northeast.

  • Ensure the safe behaviors and safety compliance of the maintenance employees
  • Lead the priority setting and direction of the maintenance activities across the three primary operating areas (Paper Making, Converting, and Logistics)
  • Develop and execute against a maintenance excellence / improvement plan]
  • Achieve department goals and objectives including safety, maintenance spend, maintenance uptime, and continuous improvement
  • Manage the work quality and managerial effectiveness of maintenance leaders
  • Manage the planning and safe execution of plant annual outage
  • Track and manage key performance indicators for plant wide maintenance
  • Develop a climate which encourages the participation and involvement of all employees
  • Lead in a manner consistent with the Companies Values at all times
  • Develop, mentor, and evaluate direct reports Measures of Success - Personal and staff safety performance
  • Increased equipment uptime and overall efficiency (OEE)
  • Effective Cost Management (budget adherence)
  • Improved preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and basic care effectiveness
  • Increased maintenance effectiveness (planned/scheduled vs break in)
  • Increased maintenance efficiency (planned vs actual)

  • B.S. Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 15+ years of experience in an industrial setting (pulp and paper preferred)
  • Strong technical skills; hands-on; possesses ability and willingness to help solve problems
  • Demonstrated expertise in maintenance excellence principals and philosophies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work in a team environment
  • Computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office programs, is required
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with a high level of commitment and self-motivation
  • Working knowledge of a CMMS is required (JD Edwards experience is a plus)
