Maintenance Manager
Summary:
Creates maintenance plan to align with corporate goals and objectives and support the organization’s success, profitability and sustainability. This position is responsible for managing all facets of the maintenance department at the Cement Plant. This includes preparing an annual and long term maintenance plan and budget, performing annual employee performance evaluations, securing specialized contract support, upgrading the skills of the department’s personnel, assuring adherence to safety policy and procedures, and further development of the preventative maintenance program. Direct the employees in the various departments under his/her supervision in implementing the maintenance plan in a safe and cost-effective manner. During the creation of the maintenance plan insures that it is aligned with corporate plans to promote the success, profitability, and sustainability of the Plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Insures all activities are carried out with full consideration for the safety of all employees.
- Develops and carries through an annual and long range maintenance plan to ensure optimum equipment and operation efficiency.
- Develops an annual budget to meet the criteria of the maintenance plan. Manages all activities to that budget.
- Implements maintenance plan through direction of the maintenance department. Insures that a predictive, preventive, and contingency maintenance plan is being carried out in as safe and efficient manner.
- Develops and improves the skills of the work force through the creation and implementation of a training and development program.
- Insures all maintenance activity is carried out in a prioritized and well planned manner. Insures records and maintenance activities are kept up to date and can be easily accessed and understood.
- Directs the work force in a manner that utilizes the maximum potential of each employee. Treats workers in a fair and consistent manner.
- Establishes and recommends improvements that will increase efficiency and decrease costs.
- Increases operational efficiency through the effective planning and management of the annual maintenance shutdown. Minimizes costs and downtime and meets company budget and requirements.
- Supports the achievement of production schedules by establishing or adjusting maintenance work procedures and schedules.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Increases departmental efficiency by suggesting and implementing changes to working conditions and use of equipment.
- Analyzes and resolves personnel problems within the maintenance department and provides guidance to personnel in solving problems.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve goals.
- Aligns department with corporate policies, initiatives, and goals.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist and/or conduct 4S audits in the plant
- Assist with MSHA inspections
- Lead and/or participate in Continuous Improvement projects and activities
- Conduct Plant Wide safety meetings
- Facilitate and/or present information at Plant Wide Communication Meetings
- Coordinate and/or participate in community relations activities
Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
Required
- BS in Engineering or at least 10 years’ experience in the cement industry
- 5 years minimum experience in managing people
- 5 years minimum experience in maintenance systems in a heavy industrial application
- Fundamental knowledge in business administration, accounting, and finance
- 5 years minimum experience with a CMMS
- Experience with SAP
Preferred
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- 5 years minimum experience in cement plant maintenance
Skills and Abilities:
- Computer literacy in Auto-CAD, MS Office products including MS Project and Excel. Ability to learn new programs as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supervising the Maintenance Business Unit including Reliability team and Plant Engineer, and aligning team to maintenance and corporate goals, plans, and initiatives.
- Occasional direction of contractors and hourly employees during major maintenance and emergency repairs.
