Magellan Aerospace, Bournemouth has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer

  • Full Time- Temporary 3 month Contract.
  • 38 hours need to be flexible, may be required to work some early and late shifts
  • Job location: Bournemouth, Dorset, BH11 8QN.
  • Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union

Within this role, our successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, repairing and maintaining all factory machinery, buildings and services alongside creating and maintaining records and services on machinery to audit standards.

Essential Responsibilities

  • To ensure the Health and Safety of self and others within the department and to work according to company standards
  • To do daily checks on plant & machinery and recording data in log to ensure that they are fit for purpose
  • To undertake routine servicing of equipment / machinery according to the preventative maintenance schedules and NADCAP requirements
  • To carry out maintenance activity according breakdowns and in order of agreed production priority
  • To requisition spares from suitable suppliers for each machine and to call off consignment stock from suppliers as required
  • To ensure that contract servicing of essential machinery is in place and carried out according to the service schedules
  • To be a pivotal member of process improvement teams and to co-ordinate the layout and siting of factory equipment to provide improved work flow areas as requested
  • To arrange and carry out moving and re-commission of machines as required
  • To make and install pipe work for air services to enable upkeep and for new services
  • To repair and replace the Fluid cell in both Verson presses according to agreed schedules
  • To service and repair all air tools and air lines
  • To ensure snag items from 5S audits are maintained as required
  • To take part in risk assessments relating to the operation and upkeep of process machinery, and site infrastructure as required

Position Requirements


  • Good general education

Professional Accreditations:

  • Time served engineering apprenticeship desirable
  • Requires Crane, FLT, Sling and cherry picker licenses


  • Minimum of 4 years hand on experience in a maintenance environment within an engineering sector
  • Aerospace industry experience would be a benefit but not essential
  • Detailed of knowledge of other maintenance activity such as electrical and plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics etc
  • Knowledge of relevant HS&E legislation

  • Knowledge of Manual Handling

  • High level of hand to eye co-ordination
  • Excellent decision making and judgment


  • Be able to communicate both written and verbally with all levels (Line manager, machine Operators, Suppliers, H&S department, third party auditors, Quality and maintenance contractors)
  • To work with minimum supervision
  • To work at height using scaffolding and cherry pickers
  • Will occasionally need to work outside
