Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Director of Maintenance to lead the maintenance function across all operational sites. This role will be critical in rebuilding and optimizing our maintenance programs, ensuring equipment reliability, and minimizing downtime. The Director of Maintenance will report to the Chief Executive Officer and work closely with other leaders to develop strategies that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Strategy Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance strategy that aligns with the company’s operational goals.
- Oversee the design and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and to ensure operational reliability and safety.
- Evaluate and implement a fit for purpose CMMS
Operational Oversight
- Manage all aspects of maintenance operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns and minimize disruption to operations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing maintenance team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Identify skill gaps and provide training programs to enhance the technical expertise of the team.
Equipment Reliability & Optimization
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to identify and resolve chronic equipment issues.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure all equipment meets operational and safety standards.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and tools to enhance maintenance efficiency and reliability.
Cost Management & Budgeting
- Develop and manage the maintenance department’s budget, including labor, materials, and capital expenditures.
- Analyze maintenance costs and implement cost-saving measures without compromising safety or quality.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure maintenance operations stay within performance and budgetary expectations.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Promote a safety-first culture by leading by example and enforcing strict adherence to safety protocols.
Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement
- Lead initiatives to modernize maintenance processes and adopt industry best practices.
- Develop a long-term asset management plan, including lifecycle assessments and replacement schedules.
- Support the company’s transformation by contributing to strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in maintenance management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful maintenance programs.
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment, and mining operations.
- Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and other maintenance technologies.
- Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance in all aspects of maintenance operations.
