Machine Shop Supervisor
Harbinger Network has partnered with an industry leading facility in the Brantford/Paris area to find a highly skilled and proven Machine Shop Supervisor. This is an opportunity for a LICENSED Machinist with strong leadership experience to step into a critical role overseeing a team of 30–35 machinists and material handlers in a fully custom, heavy-industrial environment.
This position is open due to an internal promotion. You will report directly to an experienced manufacturing leader who began his career in machining and understands the technical demands of the role. The expectation is clear: lead from the front, support your people, and drive operational excellence in a complex, custom machining environment.
About the Role
This is not a “button-pushing” operation. Our machinists are true skilled trades professionals who program at the machine using G and M codeprimarily using Siemen's and Fanuc controllers. Materials are often large, complex, and uniquely shaped. Every job is custom! Success requires a supervisor who understands not just machining processes, but how metal behaves, and how to guide machinists through challenging setups.
You will oversee both conventional and CNC operations, including vertical milling, large engine lathes, deep hole drilling machines, vertical saws, among otherse. The shop has a wide variety of equipment; some is over 60 years old, and some is brand new.
Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership and supervision to all machining personnel, ensuring performance aligns with company goals and customer delivery commitments

Manage staffing and equipment resources to match business activity levels

Assign and schedule work based on priorities, machine capabilities, and employee strengths

Support machinists and programmers with technical guidance related to metal cutting, tooling, and process challenges

Promote continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with lead hands and process technicians

Coordinate maintenance efforts to ensure safe and efficient equipment operation

Drive throughput, including managing outsourced machining when required to meet delivery targets

Conduct annual performance evaluations and provide coaching or corrective counseling as needed

Maintain a safe, compliant work environment in accordance with legislative requirements and company standards

Ensure effective communication across a diverse workforce spanning multiple demographics and experience levels

Support occasional customer or contractor interactions when required
What You Bring
-
Certified Machinist (429A required) OR you have at least 10 years experience as a leader in a custom machining facility.

Minimum 5 years of supervisory or department head experience in a machining environment

Strong background in custom manufacturing, not high-volume automotive or process-driven facilities

Experience with milling, large engine lathes, saws; CNC experience required

Solid understanding of G and M code programming at the machine

Comfort working with large-scale components

Proficiency with precision measurement tools

Working knowledge of Siemens controls (Fanuc experience considered an asset)

Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles is an asset

Strong people leadership skills, including attendance management, performance coaching, and conflict resolution

Ability to prioritize work, manage shifting demands, and make sound decisions independently
Leadership Expectations
This role requires both technical credibility and strong people management. You must be able to supervise the process and the people. You will manage scheduling, machine assignments, and human capital while fostering accountability and engagement across the team.
You will spend approximately three months shadowing and transitioning with the current supervisor. The expectation is that you become fully autonomous while maintaining collaboration with leadership.
Work Schedule
Primary hours are typically 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with oversight responsibilities across day and afternoon shifts.
