Machine Operator (1st Shift)
Job Description
Our partner, a well-established supplier of aluminum products serving the commercial transportation industry, is seeking a Machine Operator to join their team in Elkhart, IN.
This is a hands-on manufacturing position ideal for someone who takes pride in safety, quality, and teamwork. The role includes operating Cut-to-Length (CTL) equipment and other aluminum processing machinery, ensuring accurate and efficient production of aluminum sheets.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CTL line equipment, including uncoilers, straighteners, levelers, feeders, presses, shears, stackers, and auxiliary machinery.
- Monitor all processed material for defects and remove defective pieces as needed.
- Maintain production schedule, ensuring maximum safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Perform daily safety and equipment inspections, as well as routine maintenance.
- Assist with training and cross-training of other machine operators.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and surrounding equipment.
- Follow all safety guidelines and company procedures.
- Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience with sheet metal fabrication or machinery operation.
- Coil processing experience preferred.
- Ability to read manufacturing prints and measure accurately using tape measures and other tools.
- Strong math skills, including fractions, decimals, and basic geometry.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work closely in a team of two operators.
- Able to lift up to 75 lbs, kneel, stoop, twist, and perform repetitive motions throughout the day.
- Basic computer skills; experience with ERP systems a plus.
- Experience with small hand and power tools (hammer, pry bar, snips, pliers, hand shears, heat gun, nail gun, circular saw, utility knife, etc.)
- Availability for overtime as needed.
