Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Regional Transportation Manager of a leading producer of industrial pressure-treated wood products. Responding to the vital infrastructure needs of economy, they manufacture and distribute railway ties, utility poles, residential lumber, and industrial wood products across North America. Will be managing up to two yards, a private fleet of 6 trucks that manage up to 50 loads a day, and a dedicated fleet that always has 1-2 trailers on sites. This is a two-shift operation with selective weekend shifts based on storm response needs.

Responsible for the oversight of all phases of treated utility pole yard operations; including supervision of office staff, union drivers and dispatch activities. Ensures that the yard operates safely and complies with environmental regulations, while working within the guidelines of administrative policies and procedures by performing the following duties: optimizing delivery routes, monitoring all yard functions, dispatch drivers, customer service, manage yard expenses and union personal. They also are expected to communicate and resolve issues with drivers and customer service. Look for opportunities to solve problems proactively and reduce freight spend. Track metrics such as on time pick up and delivery. Improve carrier sourcing strategies, maintain yard equipment, inventory, and compliance with Safety, DOT, and OSHA. Safety first mindset is a must.

Background Required:
  • Logistics & Transportation (4 yrs)
  • Carrier compliance (Safety, DOT, HR, and OSHA awareness)
  • Budget management within P&L ($4 Million)
  • Dedicated fleet management (scorecard, claims, tracking & tracing, compliance, negotiations)
  • Driver management (communication, directions, paperwork, HOS, permits)
  • Supervision of office personnel (3 direct reports)
  • Load optimization and routing & Dispatching
  • Inventory & yard management
  • Create standard operation procedures and procedure manuals
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office Suite Products
  • Education: Associates Degree

  • Union driver relations
  • Maintenance management (Preventive maintenance, vendor management, troubleshooting)
  • Transportation experience with oversized loads
  • Emergency storm response leadership (including night and weekends)
  • Railroad load management
  • Technology: Microsoft Excel (above average), database management
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree
