Job Title: Lead VoIP Software Engineer – AI-Driven Public Safety Platforms

Overview

Our client, a high-growth innovator in AI-powered public safety technology, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive the development of mission-critical communication and analytics platforms. This individual will play a key role in building scalable, secure, and highly reliable systems that support emergency response, real-time communications, and operational intelligence.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who thrives in complex environments, enjoys solving deep technical challenges, and can leverage modern AI tools to accelerate development and improve system performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced communication and data platforms supporting public safety operations
  • Architect and implement scalable VoIP/SIP-based systems with high reliability and security standards
  • Ensure interoperability across multiple communication platforms, APIs, and third-party integrations
  • Own and resolve complex technical challenges across networking, media handling, and distributed infrastructure
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for critical system issues, driving root cause analysis and resolution
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to deliver high-impact solutions
  • Leverage AI/automation tools to improve development workflows, diagnostics, and system performance
  • Drive full lifecycle development including architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization
  • Mentor and guide engineering teams while maintaining a hands-on coding role

Core Technical Expertise

  • Protocols & Technologies: SIP, VoIP, RTP/SRTP, SDP, E911, DNS, LDAP, NTP
  • Programming Languages: Python, C/C++, Java, Bash
  • Platforms & Tools: Linux, AWS, MySQL, Django, Wireshark, SIPp
  • Systems Experience: Real-time communications, call routing, contact center features, cloud and on-prem deployments
  • Specialties: Troubleshooting complex network/media issues, escalation management, system interoperability

What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering within telecom, VoIP, or real-time communications environments
  • Proven track record leading large-scale deployments and delivering production-grade systems
  • Deep expertise in SIP-based architectures and IP communication systems
  • Experience building or integrating secure communication features (e.g., E911, encrypted calling, video)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues
  • Experience leveraging AI/ML tools to improve engineering productivity and system insights is a strong plus
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-impact environment with minimal oversight

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI/NLP-driven analytics or automation tools
  • Background in public safety, emergency communications, or mission-critical systems
  • Exposure to contact center platforms or next-generation 911 (NG911) technologies
  • Cloud certifications (AWS or similar)
