- Develop and review:
- Single-line and three-line diagrams
- AC and DC schematics
- Protection logic and relay settings
- Panel layouts and elevations
- Interconnection and wiring diagrams
- Define protection philosophies and schemes for transformers, buses, feeders, reactors, capacitor banks, and other substation equipment.
- Evaluate protective relays and intelligent electronic devices for interoperability, communications, control functionality, and system integration.
- Support IEC 61850-based digital substation architectures, including process bus and station bus applications.
- Coordinate P&C requirements with SCADA, telecom, cybersecurity, physical design, and other engineering disciplines.
- Review load flow, short-circuit, coordination, and transient studies relevant to protection system design.
- Lead or support Factory Acceptance Testing, site testing, commissioning, and system troubleshooting.
- Develop outage, cutover, testing, and commissioning procedures.

- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and designers on assigned projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of electrical engineering experience.
- 5+ years of direct protection and control engineering experience within substations, transmission and distribution, or power generation.
- Strong knowledge of protective relaying principles, coordination, and substation control systems.
- Experience developing complete P&C design packages for utility or industrial power applications.
- Ability to coordinate engineering activities across multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Background
- PE, P.Eng., or EIT designation, or willingness to pursue professional licensure.
- Strong experience with relay settings, protection coordination, and fault analysis.
- Knowledge of transformers, breakers, circuit switchers, reactors, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, and related HV equipment.
- Experience with HVDC, FACTS, BESS, or other advanced grid technologies.
- Familiarity with IEC 61850, SCADA integration, communications, and substation cybersecurity.
- Field testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting experience.
- Strong technical communication, customer-facing, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead engineering activities independently while managing technical, schedule, quality, and cost considerations.
