Lead Engineer

The Lead Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the structural steel detailing department, reviewing shop drawings, and providing final engineering approval on all designs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and experienced in structural steel design and fabrication standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor a team of steel detailers to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in design deliverables
• Review and approve detailed shop drawings and erection plans
• Perform engineering checks and calculations as needed
• Coordinate with project managers, fabricators, and field personnel to resolve design-related issues
• Ensure all designs meet applicable building codes, standards, and client requirements
• Participate in project planning and contribute to process improvements and best practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in structural or steel design
• Proven leadership skills with experience managing or mentoring technical staff
• Proficiency in structural design software and familiarity with detailing tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, SDS/2)
• Strong understanding of AISC standards, building codes, and industry practices
