Role Purpose
The Lecturer's primary purpose is to facilitate an engaging and effective learning environment for students pursuing legal education. The individual will play a crucial role in shaping the academic and professional development of future legal professionals by delivering high-quality lectures, conducting seminars, and guiding students in their understanding of legal principles, doctrines, and case law.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Lecturer's primary purpose is to facilitate an engaging and effective learning environment for students pursuing legal education. The individual will play a crucial role in shaping the academic and professional development of future legal professionals by delivering high-quality lectures, conducting seminars, and guiding students in their understanding of legal principles, doctrines, and case law.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach, examine and carry out administrative duties on undergraduate and masters programmes, within the department.
- Contribute to the curriculum development and the design of individual courses offered by the department.
- Supervise project dissertations undertaken by students (Undergraduate, Masters and PhD).
- Engage in research and scholarly activity in Law and associated areas.
- Contribute regularly to departmental seminars, discussion groups and collaborative research groups.
- Contribute to the department’s academic and pastoral care of its students and the enhancement of their learning, personal development and achievement.
- Participate fully in department committees and running of the department.
- Contribute as appropriate to programme management and related activities.
- Develop and maintain links with relevant professional bodies and academic groupings.
- Support the marketing activities of the department as appropriate, including open days and school visits.
- Contribute to the development of the interface with external organisations.
- Provide cover for colleagues on leave where necessary.
- Undertake other duties as required by the Provost.
- A PhD in Law and must have been called to the Ghana Bar
- Experience of teaching in Higher Education (both undergraduate and postgraduate).
- Required to have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in practicing law.
- Experience or understanding of the issues involved in transnational education.
- Experience of module design, curriculum development and quality assurance using pedagogical research to develop the learning experience.
- Have expert knowledge and applied research interests in Law.
- An emerging record of research experience in Law, as evidenced by a record of publications comparative to the position and career history.
- A high degree of motivation within the discipline and a strong desire to work towards embedding a research culture.
- Experience of working co-operatively and flexibly with colleagues including undertaking appropriate administrative responsibilities.
- Willingness to travel for staff development purposes.
- Willingness to enroll and complete ICAP Programme.
- Uses appropriate styles and arguments to influence and negotiate satisfactory outcomes.
- Evidence of the ability to take an effective leadership role.
- Experience of developing approaches to successfully secure research funding from a range of sources, comparative to career history.
