Job Summary

To provide meaningful Industrial Relations Services to the Company and its Members

Job Responsibilities

  1. Interview and sign- up prospective members, according to the Company’s policy and procedures.
  2. Treat with workers grievances in accordance with the Company’s Policies and Procedures, the Industrial Relations Act (IRA) and the relevant Labour Laws of Trinidad and Tobago.
  3. Open and keep updated files on workers, giving pertinent details e.g. name and address, contact information, employment history, workers statements, date, time and type of grievance.
  4. Arrange and conduct bilateral talks with employers, according to the Company’s policy and procedure and the IRA, as a first step in resolving the dispute.
  5. Initiate steps to report the dispute to the Minister of Labour, in keeping with the provisions of the IRA, if there is no resolution at bilateral level.
  6. Attend Conciliatory Meetings at the Ministry of Labour and continue follow up procedures.
  7. Prepare and execute terms of settlement in accordance with the provisions of the IRA and the Union’s policy and procedures.
  8. Prepare update on all matters and refer all unresolved matters to the Secretary General.
  9. Attend the weekly Labour Relations Officers scheduling meetings.
  10. Organize and recruit new members into the Union.
  11. Inform members and workers of their rights under the Industrial Relations Act (IRA) and other Labour Laws of Trinidad and Tobago.
  12. Attend pre-trial hearings and conciliatory talks at the Industrial Court.
  13. Conduct briefings and interviews with clients and prospective witnesses for the pursuance of the union’s case.
  14. Prepare evidence and arguments for hearing in matters referred for open court hearings in accordance with the rules and procedures of the Union.
  15. Give advice, guidance and counselling to Branch Officers, Shop- Stewards and other members of the Union.
