Jr Estimator

Our client is looking to hire a Junior Estimator to join their fast-paced plumbing firm located just south of Boston.

They have been in business for over 30 years and have built one of the best plumbing firms in New England while working alongside some of the best G.C.s in the state. Typical projects are large scale new developments of residential projects with up to 300+ units. Mostly new construction condos outside of the city center.

The main responsibility of this position is to support the Chief Estimator and other members of the team to provide an estimate for new work. On a day to day basis, you'll support the team by processing and tracking change orders on multiple large construction projects as well as assist in obtaining vendor buyouts when a project is awarded. The ideal candidate will have a sense of urgency and exceptional attention to detail.

You'll be working out of a lovely office with a nice group of people. It's fair to say it's a busy place to work, given the current favorable market conditions, and this office produces a lot of work. The company culture is, have a good attitude and work hard. Some days are harder than others, and management recognizes this and rewards its people for hard work.

  • Software savvy – Excel, Word, Outlook - knowledge of estimating software highly desirable
  • Organization skills
  • Plan reading and specification comprehension
  • Use of estimating guides, means book, walkers etc.
  • General comprehension and knowledge of contracts
  • Knowledge of different reference materials for MEP systems
  • Plumbing/HVAC systems knowledge
  • Scheduling comprehension
  • Quantity surveys and take off skills

Key competencies:

Must be prepared to take initiative with little direction.

They must be able to use the formula functions and generate a spreadsheet for estimates and change orders.

They should possess strong communication skills and a strong work ethic.

They must interact with Project Managers and Field Personnel to insure a thorough understanding of General Conditions where necessary.

They must be able to take contract documents and change order documents to compare and price the applicable changes.

The ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure is needed. A sense of urgency and time management skills are essential.

Be detailed oriented.

Compensation is a guide and will be determined by experience.
