Intermediate Distribution Designer

Position Overview:

Our client is an innovative industry leading company that provides engineering services to the electric and telecom utility industry. We are currently seeking an individual as an Intermediate Technologist/Designer to contribute to our projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare layouts, conceptual designs, calculations, illustrations and independent checks for UG and OH distribution projects.
  • Willing to assist in a variety of project support activities including project coordination, estimating, strategic planning, client support, and business analysis supporting the business development and project management departments.
  • Support documentation process for projects including technical specifications, tender documents, technical reports and project calculations.
  • Prepare design markups to the drafting group in order to assist in the development of an engineered drafted drawing.
  • Consult as required with the Professional of Record and action changes as directed.
  • Interface with other design disciplines, coordinate with related stakeholders, project managers and managers.
  • Provide a mentorship, training and guidance to junior staff.
  • Use computer-aided design methods to solve problems and prepare drawings.
  • Interact with clients, consultants and contractors on a continual basis.
  • Conduct site visits in order to verify existing site conditions.
  • Occasional travel should be expected.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of 1 years experience designing overhead power distribution assets in a power utility environment.
  • Strong communication and organization skills and attention to details.
  • Familiarity with project reporting, quantitative tools and the project life-cycle.
  • Class 5 drivers license

Preferred:

  • experience working with BC Hydro design systems an asset.
  • Post Secondary diploma or degree from a recognized electrical technology or engineering institution.
  • experience using pole line analysis design software tools such as Spida-calc an asset.
