Interim Controller: (Potential Temp-to-Hire)
Location: Wilmington, DE: (On-site 3–4 days/week)
Position Overview:
Our client is the North American arm of a large multi-national manufacturer, headquartered in Europe, which has recently expanded its U.S. footprint, and is seeking an Interim Controller to stabilize and enhance the accounting function during a critical transformation period. This individual will work closely with U.S. and international leadership to assess current processes, implement structure, and support the transition from cash to accrual accounting.
This role will also evaluate the current accounting team and provide hands-on leadership and mentorship and has the potential to convert to a full-time hire depending on business needs and performance.

This role is being initiated following a post-acquisition assessment led by our client's leadership. The current accounting infrastructure requires significant improvement and there is an immediate need for experienced leadership to guide the function. The Interim Controller will play a critical role in determining the future structure of the accounting team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and remediate current accounting processes, controls, and data integrity issues
- Lead the transition from cash basis to accrual accounting
- Establish and maintain accurate general ledger structures within QuickBooks
- Reconstruct and validate financial records, including AR and inventory data not currently captured in the system
- Provide oversight, coaching, and direction to the existing Accounting Manager
- Partner with U.S. and global leadership to deliver reliable financial reporting and insights
- Support post-acquisition integration efforts and alignment with parent company standards
- Identify process improvement opportunities across accounting, inventory tracking, and reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly close processes
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader in a small to mid-sized company (preferably $10M–$50M revenue range)
- Strong background in rebuilding or upgrading accounting functions in entrepreneurial or founder-led environments
- Experience converting companies from cash to accrual accounting
- Hands-on knowledge of QuickBooks (or similar systems); experience with ERP transitions is a plus
- Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a lean environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor, assess, and, if necessary, transition team members
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-heavy environments preferred
Work Environment
- On-site presence required in Wilmington, DE approximately 3–4 days per week
- Travel expenses (e.g., lodging) can be covered for non-local candidates
- Highly collaborative, hands-on environment with direct interaction across leadership and operations
