Assess and provide appropriate medical and mental health services which may include pain management
evaluation; chemical dependency evaluation and co-occurring disorders. Supervise and assist with the
outpatient detoxification procedures and act as a liaison between medical assistants and the medical
staff, and provide education, related to mental health and medical issues.
Key Results Area

Assess and diagnose mental disorder in individuals referred in order to treat
specified mental disorders and provide consultation services to professional
a. Conduct assessment interviews based on referrals from outside mental
health professionals, CD Counselors, Therapists and direct self-referral.
b. Formulate clinical reports that include specific categories and content
regarding: history of current illness, psychiatric history, family background,
medical history, social status, mental status exam, multi axial diagnostic
impressions and treatment recommendations.
c. Reassess presenting symptoms and progress based on medication
response, change in status, new information, treatment response.
d. Generate diagnosis based on DSM V criteria.
e. Differentiate mental disorder from biomedical conditions and complications
that present psychological symptoms.
f. Provide input regarding treatment alternatives and recommendations for
continuing care.
Provides psychiatric medical expertise in the assessment and treatment of
mental disorders to ensure that biological aspects of mental disorders are
a. Psychopharmacological treatment is prescribed in response to a specified
mental disorder.
b. Psychotropic medication is managed within formulary guidelines.
c. Psychopharmacological complications are minimized or resolved via
systematic assessment and reassessment of medication response based on
patient’s self-report and input from other disciplines in addition to laboratory
findings, psychological data and other biomedical measures.
d. Adhere to our clinical guidelines and practices re: medication
prescribing practice in the treatment of mental disorders.
e. Participate in detox process utilizing the protocol and coordinate client care
with medical providers and medical assistants.
Provide information and support to help educate patients, family and staff
regarding mental health issues.
a. Educate patients re: mental health diagnosis; medication use; side effects
etc. Educate patients about co-occurring disorders.
b. Participate in staff meetings or care interventions that address diagnostic and
clinical management questions.
c. Provide suggestions, advice and recommendations pertaining to CD/MH
issues, policies and procedures to Manager/Supervisor.
d. Comply with all documentation standards.
e. Provide emergency back up in crisis situations as requested.
f. Assist in facilitating psychiatric hospitalization when appropriate.
g. Educate staff as appropriate so that current psychiatric trends are included in
the treatment of substance dependency.
h. Serve as member of multi-disciplinary treatment team.

a. Maintain privacy, security, and confidentiality for all patients, past and
present, based of federal and state regulations as well as our policies.
b. Apply and adhere to standards and regulations for fire, weather, emergency,
and environmental hazards
c. Work safely, using procedures and techniques that apply to work area and
equipment, including ergonomics
d. Assure that doors, windows, and files are closed and/or locked based on
department standards and expectations
e. Medical and psychiatric providers will support good handoff communication
with community providers
f. Medical and psychiatric providers will interrupt their normal work to assist the
campus team in responding to medical emergencies, providing direct patient
care, assisting with code blues or other emergencies as needed. When oncall or off campus, providers will be available to provide consultation support
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
Knowledge base of biomedical conditions/complications associated with addictive disorders, related
medical interventions and clinical management.
Knowledge of medical processes such as comprehensive assessment skills, medical diagnosis, care
planning, reassessment and modification of care planning, continuing care and evaluation of medical
processes and outcomes.
Knowledge and understanding of the scope of medical practice as it relates to legal, regulatory and
accreditation standards.
Ability to integrate the medical process and twelve step-oriented treatment approaches involving key
clinical processes of assessment, care planning, care and continuing care.

Minimum/Essential Qualifications ****

Education, training, licensure, experience, etc.
Master’s Degree in advanced practice nursing
Clinical experience in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry
Current PNP license
CPR Certification/First Aid
Individual NPI (National Provider Identification)
PMHNP Board Certification
DEA Certification
DEA DATA waiver to prescribe buprenorphine (within 30 days of hire)
Buprenorphine certification at time of hire
Must be 18 + years of age
Minimum 2 years’ freedom from chemical use problems (CA )
Preferred Qualifications
Education, training, licensure, experience, etc.
2 or more years of experience in psychiatry and addiction
