Position Title: Institutional Retirement Plan Sales Director

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking an Institutional Retirement Plan Sales Director to drive sales and relationship development within the large-market retirement plan segment. This role focuses on cultivating relationships with consulting firms, financial professionals, and institutional partners to grow retirement plan sales for plans with $50 million or more in assets.

The Institutional Retirement Plan Sales Director will develop and execute strategic territory plans to expand retirement plan offerings across the Midwest region. The role requires deep expertise in defined contribution plans and the ability to consult with large institutional clients and consulting firms regarding retirement plan solutions including 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic relationship management plans to drive retirement plan sales and revenue growth within the assigned territory.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional consultants, financial professionals, and retirement plan decision-makers.
  • Promote retirement plan solutions for large-market defined contribution plans including 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on retirement plan products, services, and operational capabilities.
  • Consult with internal stakeholders regarding complex sales strategies and opportunities.
  • Identify potential clients within the territory and build relationships with executive decision-makers.
  • Develop and execute strategies to retain existing retirement plan clients while expanding service offerings.
  • Support cross-selling opportunities by partnering with internal teams and product specialists.
  • Participate in industry conferences, trade associations, and networking opportunities to increase brand visibility.
  • Deliver presentations and participate in finalist meetings with prospective clients and consulting firms.
  • Monitor sales performance and ensure achievement of departmental sales goals and territory targets.
  • Identify retention risks among existing clients and implement strategies to maintain relationships.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in defined contribution retirement plan sales or relationship management.
  • Experience working with large retirement plans, typically $50 million in assets or greater.
  • Strong knowledge of retirement plan structures including 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans.
  • Experience working with institutional consulting firms and large-market plan sponsors.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior executives and institutional decision-makers.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50 percent within the territory.
  • FINRA Series 6 and Series 63 licenses and Life & Health license, or ability to obtain within 180 days of hire.
  • Working knowledge of ERISA regulations and retirement plan industry practices preferred.
