The Role

As an Inpatient Pharmacist, you will serve as a critical clinical resource during overnight operations, ensuring safe, effective, and timely medication therapy for hospitalized patients. You’ll work closely with physicians, nurses, and clinical teams while exercising a high level of professional independence.


What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and dispense medications using best practices and hospital protocols

  • Design, recommend, monitor, and evaluate patient-specific pharmacotherapy

  • Serve as a trusted source of real-time drug information for providers

  • Participate in medical emergencies, including code blue situations

  • Ensure continuity of pharmaceutical care across inpatient and ambulatory settings

  • Identify, manage, and report medication errors and near-misses

  • Support and oversee pharmacy technicians and support staff

  • Contribute to formulary management and medication-use policy development

  • Provide targeted in-service education to clinical staff as needed

  • Utilize technology and automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis) to maximize efficiency

  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and interdisciplinary committees

  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards


What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacokinetics, drug utilization review, and medication distribution systems

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to think critically, act decisively, and remain calm under pressure

Preferred

  • Prior hospital or inpatient pharmacy experience


Physical & Cognitive Expectations

  • Light to moderate physical activity, including standing or sitting at a computer

  • Ability to respond quickly to STAT medication requests and emergency situations

  • Visual acuity to read and interpret physician orders

  • Manual dexterity for IV admixture preparation using laminar flow hoods or biological safety cabinets

  • Frequent communication with nursing staff and providers—both verbal and written


Licensure & Certification

  • Active Pharmacist license (state-specific details discussed confidentially)

  • BLS – Basic Life Support (Required)
