Nazarene General Hospital in Kudjip, Papua New Guinea, a ministry of the Church of the Nazarene International, has an immediate opportunity for a Hospital Administrator. Morgan Hunter HealthSearch is assisting with this key search.
The Nazarene General Hospital has been providing healthcare in the name of Jesus for over 50 years. This 140-bed hospital sees nearly 60,000 patients annually, has over 7,000 admissions, 2,600 births, 900 major surgeries and 2,400 minor surgeries. In 2016, Nazarene General Hospital became the only church-run hospital in Papua New Guinea to be officially recognized as a Provincial Referral Hospital! They are involved in training their own nursing students, as well as Papua New Guinea medical students, rural and remote Medicine Doctors, and providing international rotations for Christian residents and medical students from all over the world!
Additionally, Primary Health Services (PHS) has clinics on our campus and visits communities and schools in the surrounding areas. Annually, PHS takes care of about 300 tuberculosis patients, over 100 patients living with HIV on anti-retroviral medicines, over 2,000 sexually transmitted illness cases, 600 pap smears, 10,000 immunizations (including 800 children at local schools), 4,000 family planning visits, and 2,000 antenatal visits, and run an outlying clinic that serves another 1,500 people per year! All of the PHS are done without charge!
The Hospital Administrator, reporting to Nazarene Health Ministries Board, provides leadership and assumes responsibility for the overall strategic and day-to-day operations of the hospital. Reporting to the Administrator is a management team consisting of the Chief Operating Officer, Medical Director, Nursing Director, Corporate Services Director and Rural Health Services Director. This position is classified as a Missionary and is governed under the Missionary sending model.
Key areas of focus include:
- Develop and implement succession planning models and capacity building strategies with existing workforce, with an emphasis on developing indigenous leaders.
- Work with provincial and national healthcare agencies and stakeholders, addressing issues such as funding, supply shortages, appropriate resourcing, and monthly reporting.
- Develop and nurture a healthy working relationship with the local community.
- Ensure the hospital strictly adheres to Papua New Guinea governmental regulations and the policies of the Church of the Nazarene.
- Help create and maintain a culture of teamwork and shared accountability.
- Coach and develop leaders across Nazarene Health Ministries.
- Develop and present reports to the Nazarene Health Ministries Board and the Melanesia South Pacific Field.
The successful candidate is a visionary and relational leader with previous cross-cultural experience. Good administrative skills are imperative, as well as the ability to understand financial reports. A committed believer in Jesus Christ is a requirement and being a member of the Nazarene denomination is preferred.
Papua New Guinea, located in the southwestern Pacific, encompasses the eastern half of New Guinea and its offshore islands. A country of immense cultural and biological diversity, it’s known for its beaches and coral reefs. Inland are active volcanoes, granite Mt. Wilhelm, dense rainforest and hiking routes like the Kokoda Trail. There are also traditional tribal villages, many with their own languages.
