Hone & Lap Machine Operator
Levels I, II & III • 2nd Shift • Full-Time
Los Angeles, CA $24 – $42/hr + $2 shift differential Mon–Fri, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Shift Differential: The $2/hr shift differential is added to base pay once training on First Shift has been successfully completed and the employee transitions to the Second Shift schedule.

THE ROLE
Join a precision manufacturing team operating honing and lapping machines on aerospace-grade components. You’ll work to exacting tolerances, verify dimensions with precision gauges, and uphold the standards that keep aircraft flying safely. We hire at three skill levels — from entry-level to expert.
THREE LEVELS — ONE CAREER PATH
Level I — Entry
0–1 year of experience
Operates hone/lap machines per blueprint specs. Verifies dimensions and performs rough lapping with direction provided. Aerospace or close-tolerance machining background preferred.
Level II — Skilled
2+ years in hone/lap operations
Independently selects tooling and media for moderately complex jobs. Performs initial machine setup, assists with gauging, and trains junior operators.
Level III — Expert
5+ years in hone/lap operations
Expert-level setup, troubleshooting, and process development. Collaborates directly with engineering on improvements and mentors other operators.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Operate honing and lapping machines on inside and outside diameters of precision aerospace parts
- Read blueprints and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and tooling requirements
- Verify parts with precision gauges; maintain equipment calibration and support data collection
- Clean, deburr, and package finished components per manufacturing specifications
- Work safely with appropriate PPE in a clean, seated bench environment
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Aerospace manufacturing experience strongly preferred at all levels
- Lapping, honing experience. Grinding skills a strong plus
- Comfort with arithmetic for taper, clearance, and cylindrical component characterization
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs; flexibility for overtime and weekend work
