Histotechnician - High Quality Pathology Lab

We are seeking a dedicated Histotechnician to join our pathology lab. This role involves performing histological procedures to prepare high-quality slides, crucial for accurate review and diagnostics by our Pathologists. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all workplace performance standards and behaviors that emphasize both professionalism and high-quality patient care.
  • Embedding, processing, and sectioning tissue specimens while ensuring adherence to established protocols based on tissue type and diagnosis requirements.
  • Regularly perform and evaluate routine stains, specifically Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E), to ensure quality and consistency of slides.
  • Conduct specialized staining procedures; responsible for assessing the quality, troubleshooting inconsistencies, and documenting outcomes.
  • Execute immunohistochemical assays, perform evaluations for consistency, while also managing control checks and detailed documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with other lab team members to ensure seamless operations and meet crucial laboratory timelines.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to maintain and enhance technical skills.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment by following all safety guidelines and laboratory standards.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician License or NYS Pathologists’ Assistant License required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Histology, or a related science field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in a hospital histology lab.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to follow complex protocols and standard operating procedures thoroughly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASCP certification is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in performing specialized staining and/or immunohistochemical techniques.
  • Proficiency in both manual and automated histological techniques.
  • Experience with digital pathology systems and software.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under time pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
