Position Description

Ability to be proactive in all aspects of business development including;
  1. Desire to develop a book of business from a National & Regional customer base, which often times will require work off site as travel can be significant.
  2. Ability to successfully establish and maintain a book of referral sources to feed new opportunities to the Division.
  3. Ability to cultivate and establish positive relationships among a variety of trade and advocacy associations as well as governmental agencies that are active in the Division’s target market.
  4. Ability to successfully network among a variety of contacts at trade shows and conferences.
  5. Ability to cold call referral sources and potential direct borrowers when necessary.
  • Be assertive and a self-starter regarding the Bank's effort to expand its target market and loan programs. This will likely require an ability to seek out product development opportunities as discovered in the open marketplace. A successful BDO must have the ability to develop, implement and maintain an effective prospecting routine.
  • Ability and willingness to handle large, complex borrowing lending opportunities in the Healthcare Industry. Must have an ability to work through complex legal and regulatory structures inherent within the Healthcare Industry (high level C&I covenant structuring, borrowing bases, deposit segregation, lead agency responsibilities, inter-creditor relationships, some including junior subordinated creditors, lead agency status, etc.). Be able to determine appropriate strategies and structures that would include both innovative and creative thinking for highly complex C&I Lending.
  • Ability to review, filter and determine which lending opportunities to pursue based on the Bank’s target market
  • Negotiate complex terms and conditions with borrower while maintaining an appropriate balance between customer demands and maintaining credit quality and pricing. Must have ability to decline opportunities if the profile is inappropriate and/or if unable to maintain a satisfactory credit structure and pricing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate deal opportunities, written and verbal to management, credit underwriters and approval authorities (proposals and term sheets).
  • Strictly adhere to all approval requirements and seek advice when uncertain.
  • Work actively in a partnership setting with others, both internal, which includes upper level management, underwriters, approvers, etc., and external, which would include attorneys, appraisers, or other third parties as needed on a case by case basis.
  • Ability and willingness to constantly adapt to ever changing regulatory requirements in the Healthcare industry which often affect existing “work-in-progress” and future lending opportunities – “must stay up-to-date”.
  • Work closely with legal counsel on the vast majority of transactions. Must have an ability to comprehend legal issues within loan documentation and be able to adapt to last minute, negotiated revisions. BDO will be required to read and proof loan documents.
  • Maintain desired pricing and fee structure while negotiating new transactions as targeted by Senior Management.
  • Ability to successfully interact, promote and expand positive relationships with governmental loan agencies such as USDA and SBA.
  • Actively engage in Bank Brand Marketing through various national and regional conferences that would promote brand awareness.
  • Willingness and desire to cross sell products and services offered by Bank.
  • Other duties as they arise but not limited to such things as marketing events promoting the Bank, community activities or functions, out of town business travel for meetings, training or client discussions, etc. Represents the Bank in a professional manner at social and community events

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least 8 years’ experience demonstrated to be applicable to job requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial lending policies and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of lending services
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed sales skills
  • Working knowledge of PC spreadsheet, word processing, and production software. i.e. Microsoft Office Products.
  • This individual must demonstrate a history of excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must have the ability to respond appropriately to customer inquiries in a fast-paced work environment while handling multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrate aptitude for detail work and ability to effectively meet specific deadlines
  • Must be adaptable to different types of work environments, be able to work independently and be a self-starter.
  • Must be able to respond under pressure, and be able to effectively deal with multiple priorities and schedules.
  • This position requires the ability to stand and to lift, handle and carry some storage boxes.
  • This person will be required to make frequent sales calls outside the bank.
