Head of Architectural Services

Position Title: Head of Architectural Services

Overview:

Our client, a fast-growing multidisciplinary firm, is recognized among the nation's top 300 architectural firms by Architectural Record Magazine. They are looking for an ambitious, licensed architect with exceptional organizational, managerial, and technical abilities to lead their rapidly expanding architecture division on a national scale. The Director will oversee every aspect of the architectural division, including business development, client relations, resource management, workflow optimization, and talent acquisition. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in successfully managing teams and projects through all phases, including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Division Leadership: Oversee and manage architectural operations across the country.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior management to establish and implement both short-term and long-term objectives that align with the company’s core values and focus.
  • Senior Management Reporting: Report directly to senior leadership with financial responsibilities for the architecture division.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with other firm leaders, directors, and business development teams.
  • Client & Account Management: Oversee the management of clients and national account programs.
  • Process Optimization: Research, develop, and implement best practices to enhance productivity and efficiency within the division.
  • Project Management: Manage the division’s project approach, document preparation, construction plan design, agency submittals, and construction services.
  • Performance Monitoring: Set and monitor division performance goals, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Workload Management: Assist in evaluating, prioritizing, and distributing workloads across teams and offices.
  • Licensing & Compliance: Serve as the firm's lead architect for company licensure across multiple states as needed.
  • Project Oversight: Act as Architect of Record for projects across various states when required.
  • Code Compliance: Research, interpret, and apply relevant codes and client requirements.
  • Business Travel: Travel as necessary for business development, division management, and client relations.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Supervise and mentor architectural staff, including architects, designers, technicians, and assistants. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Project Development: Aid in planning, developing, coordinating, and completing architectural projects.
  • Quality Control: Implement and oversee quality control measures within the division.
  • Contract Management: Develop, negotiate, and review project contracts, including scope, planning, schedules, and budgets.
  • Business Development: Participate in preparing qualification packages and proposals for business development.
  • Public Presentations: Represent the firm in presentations to clients, public entities, governing agencies, and other organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited institution. Licensure is required, with the ability to obtain additional state licensure through reciprocity considered a plus.
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of experience in U.S. industrial, institutional, commercial, retail, restaurant, grocery store, and/or office projects.
    • Proven leadership and management experience in an architectural setting.
    • Extensive experience in producing accurate architectural presentations, designs, details, and construction documents.
    • Deep experience in the development and use of REVIT standards, families, and templates.
    • Strong background in preparing specifications, reviewing shop drawings, and providing construction administration support as the Architect of Record.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in REVIT, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Suite is preferred.
  • Software Proficiency: Skilled in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Project Management: Comprehensive understanding of the project lifecycle from concept through construction.
  • Judgment & Decision-Making: Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating, selecting, and adapting materials, techniques, procedures, and design solutions.
  • Mentorship & Training: Competence in providing instruction, teaching, and mentoring in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Teamwork & Independence: Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional social, communication, written, and organizational skills.
  • Multitasking & Flexibility: Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to schedules and budgets, with flexibility to meet business development needs and deadlines.
