Global Leader in Scientific & Analytical Instrumentation

18-Month Contract (Full-Time) Potential to Transition to Permanent

About the Hiring Company

The hiring company is a global leader in life sciences, diagnostics, and applied chemical markets, providing laboratories worldwide with instruments, services, consumables, applications, and expertise. Their Melbourne-based technology centre is a state-of-the-art R&D and manufacturing facility, designing and building spectroscopy instruments trusted by scientists across environmental, food, pharmaceutical, and industrial sectors globally.

The Opportunity

The hiring company's Spectroscopy Product Line is looking for a Hardware Quality and Test Engineer to join their Hardware Test Labs on an 18-month full-time contract, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position down the track.

This is a hands-on, dual-focus role spanning Quality Engineering — ensuring products are designed and manufactured to meet company and customer standards — and Test Engineering, providing hardware testing support to certify product designs against EMC, environmental, reliability, and product safety standards (including IEC 61010).

You'll work closely with R&D and cross-functional engineering teams, get hands-on with custom test fixtures and equipment, and play a key role in ensuring the hiring company's spectroscopy products meet the highest standards before they reach customers around the world.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Test and evaluate products and assemblies against corporate, regulatory, and safety requirements
  • Define, implement, and verify test methods, procedures, limits, and set-ups
  • Design custom test fixtures for reliability testing
  • Troubleshoot test failures, determine root cause, and recommend engineering solutions
  • Generate technical reports and present findings to relevant teams
  • Maintain test equipment and machinery to minimise downtime, including calibration scheduling
  • Collaborate with R&D to define test plans covering performance, life, reliability, and design margin testing
  • Support ISO 17025 compliance and contribute to lab test procedure improvements
  • Provide guidance and training to other Test Engineers in the Hardware Test Labs
  • Plan and manage incoming equipment schedules for testing

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated skills in electrical circuit analysis, mechanical testing, and related technical disciplines
  • Experience working with standards and regulatory agencies for product safety and EMC approvals
  • Solid understanding of quality engineering processes and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the adaptability to manage shifting priorities without compromising safety or compliance
  • Prior exposure to spectroscopy or vacuum products is highly regarded, but not essential

What's on Offer

  • Work with a global leader in scientific instrumentation on cutting-edge spectroscopy technology
  • 18-month contract with a genuine pathway to permanency
  • Collaborative, hands-on engineering environment based at a state-of-the-art Melbourne technology centre
