Position Title: Mechanical Plumbing/HVAC Estimator

The Boss:
The Estimator reports directly to a senior mechanical leader with deep estimating and operational experience who is actively involved in preconstruction, client relationships, and strategic growth. This leader values accuracy, accountability, and collaboration, and works closely with the estimating team to secure work and ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to project execution.

The Position:
The Estimator is responsible for evaluating bid documents, developing accurate and competitive estimates, coordinating subcontractor coverage, and supporting the successful transition of awarded projects to project management. This role works closely with senior leadership, project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure bids are thorough, strategic, and aligned with the company’s operational capabilities. The position is office-based and non-union, with a strong emphasis on systems, process discipline, and teamwork.

Essential Functions (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Review bid specifications, drawings, and requirements to develop complete and accurate estimates
  • Solicit, coordinate, and aggressively follow up with subcontractors and vendors to ensure full bid coverage
  • Prepare subcontractor bid packages and transmit addenda and bid information
  • Perform detailed bid-day analysis, scoping, and leveling of subcontractor proposals
  • Enter estimate data into estimating and cost management systems accurately and on time
  • Develop RFIs, clarifications, and value-engineering ideas for each bid
  • Ensure all bids and budgets are submitted by required deadlines
  • Coordinate turnover of awarded projects to project management within established timeframes
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, architects, and construction managers

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in business administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Several years of related estimating or construction experience preferred
  • Prior experience with industry-standard estimating software preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products required; collaboration and bid management tools are a plus
