Job Summary:

The position reports to the General Manager and is responsible for the development, administration and maintenance of all health and safety programs and efforts that support the Idaho Cobalt Operations as well as MSHA requirements. This position will work with operations and administrative managers and manage a team of Safety and Health professionals. The health and safety of the company’s employees is taken very seriously and is considered our number one priority.

  • Major Responsibilities:

    • Health and Safety professionals will develop and coordinate safety and health systems and strategies
    • They will be responsible for designing and maintaining all safety and health policies within the company
    • They will identify workplace hazards, and access risks to employee health and safety, and recommend solutions around these issues
    • This can include anything from the safe operation of heavy equipment, the handling of chemicals as well as various other areas, including ensuring the proper fire drill procedures are adhered to
    • They will ensure the company is aware of, and complies with all current regulations and any new legislation in relation to our business
    • The Health and Safety Manager will be involved in the supervision and investigation of all accidents that may occur as well as follow up reporting
    • They will also be involved in the investigation of unsafe working conditions
    • It will be up to the Health and Safety professionals to implement and coordinate all emergency procedures, including firefighting, emergency evacuation/response and mine rescues
    • The Health and Safety professionals will be involved in the development and implementing of training sessions for all employees on all aspects around safety practices and legislation
    • The Health and Safety Manager will lead the implementation of policies and procedures and insure that all safety manuals are accessible and up to date at all times.
    • Writing reports and record keeping are main parts of a Health and Safety Managers job. Every work site evaluation and any changes, measures implemented as well as all training records, etc. must be kept recorded in detail.

Qualifications:

  • Health and Safety Managers would typically have a bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or in a related scientific or technical field, or an equivalent of 10 years’ experience in the field.
  • Specific on the job training depending on the work environment including various certificates or training related to mining and management
  • The company expects the Health and Safety Manager to have an impeccable work ethic, and a commitment to all aspects regarding health and safety

  • Proficient with full MS Office programs
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work well with others required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to walk on un-even ground and to work in inclement weather.
  • Required to sit for extended periods at a time at desk or in vehicle.
  • Required to periodically lift items weighing approx. 50 pounds.
