HR Business Partner

Provides excellent HR service to our internal business groups by partnering with our key leaders, our managers and our supervisors to understand their business processes, current challenges, expectations and future growth initiatives. Recommends and implements actions to ensure we have a talented team of associates, great leaders, and a positive work environment in place to be successful as an organization. Areas of responsibility include recruiting, retention, associate relations, performance and compensation management, training and development, team building, etc.

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Understands assigned business group’s business process, needs, expectations, and challenges to provide excellent HR service. Builds collaborative relationships with leaders, managers and supervisors to proactively understand and support them with their business needs. Communicates regularly with leadership and management to ensure alignment and discuss changes, events or issues that impact their team.
  • Facilitates conversations with Leadership on workplace trends such as turnover, organizational changes, labor costs, association satisfaction, performance deficiencies, and production (sales) ramp ups/downs. Understands the impact of staffing plans and turnover trends as it relates to cost and the impact on the business. Makes recommendations and implements action plans to address current challenges and to build sustainable talent.
  • Be a champion for setting the standard for a positive work environment. Creates metrics to evaluate the success of these initiatives. Recommends policies and procedure changes needed and ensures supervisor, managers and associates understand policy changes. Performs new associate conversations and exit interview process to identify areas for improvement in our workplace. Works with management if a significant program is identified from this data. Develop and lead a retention strategy and program and evaluate its effectiveness. Processes unemployment claims.
  • Leads the recruiting efforts for assigned business groups. Collaborates with other HR Business Partners and HR Director to fulfill the overall company talent needs. Updates/creates job descriptions, posts online job opportunities, conducts phone interviews, coordinates in person interviews, participants in job fairs and events, conducts reference checks, creates offer letters, ensures recruitment paperwork is completed, facilitates debrief conversations to make hiring decision and ensures a new associate HR onboarding date is communicated.
  • Works with managers and supervisors to identify performance deficiencies and talent gaps. Participates in developing and implementing training programs for on the job skill development by working with leadership and outside resources (tech schools). Maintains the training records and communicates to management if appropriate progress is not occurring with the training program. Evaluates the effectiveness and make recommendations for changes. Participates in developing (may facilitate) ongoing manager and supervisor training to ensure we have strong leaders who are champions for a positive workplace.
  • Oversees applicable performance review processes & compensation programs. Determines eligibility for pay increases and ensures ATNs are correct, approved, and processed in a timely manner. Assists with projects related to market base pay and the creation of new pay policies and programs. Recommends changes to programs based on needs of the business group and local market.
  • Facilities associate conversations and investigations as needed. Participates with managers & supervisors on disciplinary actions, PIPs, terminations, etc. Trains new managers & supervisors on policies and procedures that impact the HR functions and our associates.
  • Works with HR Leadership and Legal as needed on items relating to your business group(s) or lawsuits. Ensures new locations are set up with proper federal/state postings and onboarding of new team members. Stays abreast of new regulations and participates in updating handbook and all policies and procedures. Participates in local HR organization(s).
  • Participates in HR project work. Regularly meets with HR Team to discuss issues, update each other on key activities and events, discuss progress on projects and balance workload if necessary. Administers unique functions based on assigned business units such as engagement/satisfaction survey, turnover results, DOT requirements, Driver Safety Bonus, security system, company events, etc. as needed.
  • Builds a full knowledge of HRIS system. Works with vendor(s) for to resolve problems. Ensures when a resolution is applied that it truly fixes the problem. Builds documentation and training resources for managers and associates as functionality changes.
  • Assists associates with questions or problems as they arise. Obtains an understanding of the FAQ with regards to benefits & 401K so you can explain to associates but when outside of this scope you will refer to appropriate person.
  • Actively provides feedback and recommendations for improvements. Communicate with leadership regularly on problems and progress. Asks for help/guidance when needed. Participates on Safety Committee and/or other related associate events that impact assigned business groups. Cross trained to back up other HR or EHS activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in a business related field preferably with a Human Resource Management Focus.
  • At least 5 years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated success leading others (directly or indirectly) to accomplish goals. Proven leadership ability as it relates to project management.
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, retail and/or contracting work environments is preferred
