Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to lead technical studies supporting high-voltage substations, grid interconnections, renewable generation, energy storage, and other large-scale electrification projects.
This role will contribute across project execution, proposals, and technical development, with responsibility for complex system analysis, simulation, and engineering recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and lead advanced power system studies for HV/EHV projects, including:
- Load flow and reactive power analysis
- Short-circuit and system strength studies
- Dynamic and transient performance analysis
- LVRT/HVRT assessments
- Harmonic and stability studies
- Switching transient, TOV, TRV, and insulation coordination studies
- Arc-flash analysis
- Cable sizing and selection
- Overall system performance assessments
- Develop and validate simulation models for conventional generation, BESS, renewable generation, inverter-based resources, and interconnected AC systems.
- Use tools such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory for steady-state, dynamic, and electromagnetic transient analysis.
- Define study scopes and technical requirements for external consultants and review third-party study results.
- Translate study findings into clear technical recommendations for customers, project teams, and other stakeholders.
- Support engineering teams with system requirements, equipment application, and project design decisions.
- Contribute technical expertise to proposals, tenders, and early-stage project development.
- Coordinate engineering activities to ensure technical deliverables meet project requirements, applicable standards, and grid-code expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with coursework or experience in power systems, power electronics, or related disciplines.
- 6+ years of experience performing power system, network, dynamic, or transient studies.
- Experience supporting utility, industrial, renewable energy, generation, FACTS, BESS, or grid-interconnection projects.
- Strong working knowledge of at least one major power system analysis platform such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, or PowerFactory.
- Strong understanding of HV/MV electrical systems, grid behavior, and equipment integration.
- Ability to independently execute complex studies and communicate technical results clearly.
Preferred Background
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in power systems or power electronics.
- PE or P.Eng. designation.
- Experience with NERC/FERC requirements, ISO/RTO interconnection processes, or transmission-planning standards.
- Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, and applicable utility/grid-code requirements.
- Knowledge of substation equipment application and engineering calculations, including transformers, breakers, DC systems, cables, grounding, bus systems, insulation, and lightning protection.
- Experience developing engineering solutions where customer specifications or project requirements are still evolving.
