Grant Researcher & Writer
Full Time/Contractor
U.S. based role – occasional travel to Canada may be required

Our client is a dynamic Venture Capital investment firm, who caters to early-stage companies by assisting them in raising capital, financing, and devising their going-public strategies. Several of their investments have reached a market capitalization of $1 billion.

The Grant Researcher & Writer will identify grant opportunities, manage the grant development and proposal process, writing and editing, and will collaborate with various departments. The Grant Writer will apply fundraising methods and plans to reach income goals and create coherent, organized, and compelling proposals. This role includes synthesizing project information gathered from research, client meetings, notes from the sales team or team lead, and previous funding proposals.

What you will achieve in this role:

  • Research and identify grant opportunities from industry, non-profit agencies, as well as Provincial, State, and Federal government
  • Research and identify grant opportunities based on funding amount needed, location, and organization project
  • Prepare proposals by determining concept, gathering and formatting information, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals
  • Determine proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposal (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings
  • Meet proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal
  • Enter and monitor tracking data
  • Coordinate requirements with contributors and contributes proposal status information to review meetings
  • Gathers proposal information by identifying sources of information, coordinating submissions and collections, and identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals
  • Develop proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation
  • Write, revise, and edit drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials
  • Prepare presentation by evaluating text, graphics, and binding and coordinating printing
  • Maintain quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support databases
  • Obtain approvals by reviewing proposals with key providers and project managers
  • Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; maintaining personal networks
  • Reach organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

What you will bring to this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing, Business Administration, or related field
  • Excellent writing and editing skills working on complex proposals
  • 5 years of Grant Research and Writing experience within Emerging Markets preferred (Small Cap Start-Ups); sectors include Mining, Energy, ESG space, Biosciences, Technology, etc.
  • Experience with Provincial, State and Federal Grant application processes and programs is required (Canadian and U.S. based Grant experience is strongly preferred)
  • Permitting knowledge is strongly preferred
  • Proficient with measuring and reaching income goals; excellent knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Strong Project Management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict timelines
  • Highly flexible and adaptable with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills coupled with sound problem-solving and research skills
