Our client in the supermarket and grocery store industry within the central area is seeking a General Manager on a one-year contract.

Overview:

  • Salary range: $10,000 to $15,000
  • Working hours: Shift system
  • Contract position: 1-year contract
  • Reports to: Director

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced General Manager to lead the operations of a medium-sized supermarket serving a close-knit rural community. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a passion for customer service, and the ability to adapt to the unique needs of the community. This role is central to ensuring the store runs smoothly, profitably, and as a valued part of the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day store operations including sales, staffing, merchandising, and inventory control
  • Build strong relationships with customers and staff, promoting a warm and welcoming environment
  • Hire, train, schedule, and manage store staff to ensure excellent customer service and efficiency
  • Monitor sales and expenses, prepare financial reports, and work within budget guidelines
  • Ensure shelves are well-stocked with a variety of essential and community-preferred items
  • Handle vendor relations and manage ordering to minimize waste while meeting demand
  • Ensure the store complies with health, safety, and food handling regulations
  • Organize community-friendly events or promotions that build customer loyalty
  • Lead by example and foster a culture of teamwork, respect, and accountability

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (3–5 years) in supermarket or retail management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Solid understanding of retail operations, including POS systems, inventory management, and budgeting
  • Ability to lead a team and maintain a positive work environment
  • Willingness to be hands-on and involved in all aspects of the store
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must have access to a motor vehicle
  • A degree in Business Management, Management, or Human Resource Management (HRM) would be an asset
