General Manager

Grasslands Recruitment Specialists has been retained to fill a General Manager position with a privately owned Canadian company within the Animal Feed/Animal Health industry. They are a solid company with a respected name in the industry, known for quality products and customer service. They are large enough to meet industry needs and agile enough to quickly make quality decisions that benefit customers, company, and staff. This position is based in their REGINA location.

As General Manager, your knowledge of Animal Science, Nutrition, and Marketing supported by 10-20 years' of direct industry/management/leadership experience, and post-secondary education in Business or Agriculture is key to your success.

Reporting directly to the President, you will build relationships and trust with all staff within the organization - providing leadership and coordination to every department within your scope; spearheading growth and strategic planning while empowering staff to collectively achieve goals. You will directly oversee the success of the purchasing, sales and marketing, accounting, nutrition, and production departments. You will be granted the autonomy to grow and shape the direction of the company as opportunities in the industry/parallel industries become known. As this is a key position, you will have direct impact on the success of the company and your personal success internally.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Human Resources - Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to staff regarding the overall functioning of the office and business at large; recruiting and releasing to maintain productivity
  • Production - work with all departments ensuring production and shipments are made on time, as promised; accepting full responsibility
  • Sales and Marketing - establishing price schedules and profit margins for all product categories; supervise sales personnel and measure successes in marketshare
  • Relationship Building - develop and maintain relationships, alliances, and partnerships internally and externally with customers and industry
  • Trends - become knowledgeable and remain current with industry news and product trends globally
  • Policies and Procedures - ensure office and accounting performed accurately
  • Negotiations - contracts necessary for conducting day-to-day business and capital expenditures (within authority level)
  • Budgeting - oversee development and evaluation of annual budget; manage resources to meet client and company needs

  • Ability to make strategic decisions while focusing on multiple goals simultaneously
  • Relationship builder; able to rally the team and provide positive motivation and guidance
  • Demonstrate leadership to inspire; increase staff engagement, development, and empowerment
  • Communicate in a manner that helps people achieve both personal and department goals
  • Post-Secondary education in Business or AgriBusiness with 10-20 years direct Animal Science/Animal Feed industry experience
  • Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset
  • A Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN)
