Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director, Operations for a leader in freight services giving customers a one-stop shop for customized supply chain solutions via a portfolio of transportation and logistics firms. The portfolio of companies includes warehousing, short line railroad, barge-rail-truck., regen and logistics.
The General Manager, Logistics is responsible for the continued progressive, profitable growth of the multi-modal, non-asset freight brokerage business. Goal is to double a $45 million-dollar logistics business operating from two locations in 2 years. Major emphasis on developing and executing an aggressive growth plan while maintaining strong financial performance. Responsible for driving new business development and organic revenue growth. Responsible for leading the strategic and tactical customer focused selling of transportation solutions in a team environment. Will manage various levels of Business Development, Account Management, Operations and Administrative personnel. Short and Long-term goals include organizational design, customer and carrier facing sales group structure and compensation, account revenue growth and increasing account growth. Responsible for complete P & L, establishing metrics, formulating, and administering divisional policies, business plan development, and operational execution. In addition, review and analyze activities, costs, operations, and technology enhancements. Challenge is to build a world-class team, develop high-level service offerings, motivate, and lead a staff, while increasing revenues and improving profitability.

Background Required:
  • Progressive responsibility in non-asset transportation environment (10+ years)
  • Experience driving and managing rapid growth within a freight brokerage organization
  • Proven track record in building scalable, repeatable processes and a disciplined, data driven culture
  • P&L responsibility (Gross Margin, Revenue, OE, ROI)
  • Ability to close and manage large account business and drive organic growth of existing accounts
  • Mode of Transportation (i.e., TL, LTL, Flatbed, Conestoga, intermodal, specialized)
  • Experience driving technology and process improvement
  • Developed & managed KPI’s (i.e., on-time performance, margin, data integrity, lane balances)
  • Systems (i.e., TMW, Mcleod)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Residence: Cedar Rapids, IA (relocation)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Advanced Degree – MBA
  • Prior experience executing and/or integrating acquisitions
