Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the President of an asset-based organization providing freight forwarding, customs brokerage, commercial cargo transportation, and logistics services since 1965.

The General Manager is responsible for the launch and continued progressive, profitable growth of a multi-modal, asset-based US freight brokerage business. Major emphasis on developing and executing an aggressive growth plan while maintaining strong financial performance. Responsible for driving new business development and organic revenue growth. Responsible for leading the strategic and tactical customer focused selling of transportation solutions in a team environment. Will manage various levels of Business Development, Account Management, Operations and Administrative personnel. Short and Long-term goals include organizational design, customer and carrier facing sales group structure and compensation, account revenue growth and increasing account growth. Responsible for complete P & L, establishing metrics, formulating and administering divisional policies, business plan development, and operational execution. In addition, review and analyze activities, costs, operations, and technology enhancements. Challenge is to build a world-class team, develop high-level service offerings, motivate and lead a staff, while increasing revenues and improving profitability.

Background Required:
  • Progressive responsibility in non-asset transportation environment (10+ years)
  • Sales Management (Train, Coach, Mentor) (5+ years)
  • Mode of Transportation (i.e. TL, LTL)
  • Experience driving and managing rapid growth within a freight brokerage organization
  • P&L responsibility (Gross Margin, Revenue, OE, ROI, Daily Dashboard)
  • Ability to close and manage large account business
  • Ability to drive organic growth of existing accounts
  • Experience driving technology and process improvement
  • Developed & managed KPI’s (i.e. on-time performance, margin, data integrity, lane balances)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Residence: Chicago, IL
