The EPA has contracted with our client to provide support to their Scientific Computing and Data Curation Division (SCDCD) under their Office of Research and Development. This senior developer works mostly on Front End functions for SCDCD custom applications.

You’ll be developing a growing list of features and upgrades as well as providing for the maintenance, and availability of large volumes of scientific data produced by researchers. This position will work closely with a team of personnel from EPA, our client, and other teammates integrated into a smoothly functional team. You will work closely with this team to meet the needs of the local team of EPA, our client, and other teammates’ researchers, as well as the science community at large.

  • This senior developer will work developing J2EE applications. Successful candidate will develop front end functionality for several applications and will aid as needed in data curation, APIs and database engineering and maintenance activities.
  • Will fill a valued position in a rigorous Agile environment, following our client’ and SCDCD SOPs for Agile development, data management, testing, coding, and code deployment.
  • Creates design and functional documentation.
  • Resolves technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

The successful candidate must possess the following minimum requirements.

  • A degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Software engineering, or closely related field of study. Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience, or an MS degree and a minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience. Progressive relevant training and/or certification may be substituted for a portion of the education requirement.
  • Demonstrated 3 years minimum web application development work in modern frontend user interface framework, JAVA script, Cascading Style Sheets, REST based APIs, and Node.js.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the design, coding, and testing of technical UI/UX development solutions for database-driven applications leveraging modularity and re-use principles.
  • Capable in APIs, ETL, general data acquisition techniques.
  • Proven experience working as part of a formalized Agile Team. Knowledge of CD/CI pipelines, Scrum, sprints, reviews, and story planning and pointing representatives.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, on a highly integrated cross-functional and matrixed work team with key internal stakeholders and information technology professionals from our client, other contractors, and client staff.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of object and component design methodologies and technologies related to classes, components, objects, and interfaces.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

U.S. citizenship required. Ability to pass a background investigation and a drug test.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR SKILLS:

  • Experience and comfort with the unique requirements that accompany working on Federal Technology projects, rigor, security, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.
  • Familiarity with EMAS Java Script, Bootstrap, Kanban.
  • Working knowledge of databases such as Postgres, mySQL, MongoDB.
  • Some experience with Docker and Jenkins.
  • Knowledge of 508(c) compliance and accessibility issues in UI preferred.
