Food Retail Buyer

They are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Food Retail Buyer to join their dynamic team. Reporting directly to the Category Manager and working closely with the Vice President of Procurement, this specialist will play a key role in optimizing purchasing strategies to meet organizational objectives.

Focus:

  • Procure inventory to align with forecasted demand while mitigating excess stock and minimizing loss.
  • Secure optimal product pricing, quality, and supplier service at all times.
  • Adhere to and enforce established procurement policies and procedures.
  • Achieve inventory turnover targets while ensuring high service levels and minimal distress.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including operations, distribution, and corporate personnel, to support business objectives.
  • Analyze cost structures to ensure purchases align with the best value in terms of quality, supplier reliability, and urgency.
  • Monitor inventory levels, market conditions, and promotional impacts to adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  • Conduct post-promotional evaluations to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Address inventory discrepancies at store level related to allocation or order issues.
  • Review operational reports to track cost efficiency, product quality, service levels, and inventory turnover, making data-driven adjustments as necessary.
  • Oversee accounts payable processes for distribution-sourced products to ensure accurate pricing and invoicing.
  • Investigate and resolve store-level billing discrepancies by coordinating with relevant departments.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and records of purchasing activities.

  • Work in partnership with Warehouse Operations to facilitate seamless product flow within the facility.
  • Utilize remote access capabilities for purchasing functions when needed.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience with food items
  • Experience with annual spends over $25MM
  • Contract negotiation experience
  • Experience working directly with grocery suppliers
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical abilities, with a data-driven decision-making approach.
