Flexible Packaging Application Engineer
• Support customers with product recommendations, customized application solutions, product evaluations, demonstrations, and technical troubleshooting activities.
• Consult with customers to identify solutions that improve performance and create value within manufacturing and converting operations.
• Conduct technical customer visits, including meetings, process audits, demonstrations, troubleshooting, and follow-up documentation through CRM and laboratory information systems.
• Partner with customers on application equipment and process improvements related to adhesive and coating technologies to optimize operational performance.
• Utilize customer feedback and field observations to support continuous improvement efforts, strengthen customer relationships, and identify potential business opportunities.
• Communicate customer complaints and quality concerns to the appropriate internal teams for investigation and resolution.
• Coordinate laboratory activities related to customer samples, including prioritization of testing requests and communication of technical findings to customers.
• Provide technical training, product application support, and coaching to both customers and commercial team members.
• Collaborate closely with sales, marketing, product development, operations, innovation, supply chain, and technical service teams to support customer initiatives and ongoing projects.
• Share successful applications, innovations, and best practices across internal teams and customer accounts.
• Serve as a trusted technical resource by leading product demonstrations, troubleshooting activities, and process evaluations at customer facilities while maintaining detailed pre-visit and post-visit documentation.
• Act as a technical liaison between customers and internal functional teams to support successful project execution and customer satisfaction.
• Provide timely technical support for regional accounts, including product selection guidance, analytical problem solving, and investigation of product performance concerns.
• Demonstrate strong project management capabilities by helping define project scope, supporting customer development initiatives, and contributing to innovation and technology advancement efforts within the business.
• Plan, coordinate, and communicate laboratory testing activities that support customer and market development projects.
• Prepare technical reports that summarize findings, recommendations, and conclusions, and communicate results effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Support the development and successful implementation of new adhesive and coating technologies through practical application knowledge, technical expertise, and understanding of market needs.
• Contribute industry knowledge through participation in technical organizations, customer interactions, and professional associations.
• Promote a strong safety culture by complying with all company and customer site safety requirements.
• Continue to build technical and professional capabilities through ongoing learning, mentoring, and participation in technical development activities.
Required Background & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field required.
• 5-10+ years of technical service, engineering, manufacturing, or industry-related experience.
• Prior experience within flexible packaging, converting, coatings, or related manufacturing environments strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with coating, laminating, or converting equipment, including adhesive and/or coatings applications, is highly desirable.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving abilities required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals at all organizational levels, ranging from production personnel and laboratory staff to executive leadership, both internally and externally.
• Strong organizational and project management capabilities.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 60% throughout the United States, with occasional travel to Canada and Mexico.
