Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the CEO/COO of a family-owned specialty transportation company, offering a variety of services to include Rigging, Millwright work, Crating & Packaging, Industrial Storage and Heavy Haul Trucking.
The Fleet Safety and Compliance Director is responsible for managing and successfully ensuring the operational safety and compliance with FSCMA regulatory requirements for nationwide trucking, rigging and warehousing company. Developing, implementing, and overseeing safety and compliance programs that protect the company’s employees, assets and reputation contribute to the success and growth of the organization. Attitude and behavior consistent with core values of the organization, demonstrating a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic. Able to work cooperatively and respectfully with other staff and colleagues. Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to address safety concerns, implement corrective actions, and promote a culture of safety awareness. Identify opportunities to improve compliance and safety processes, procedures, and systems. Develop and implement safety plans in alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and training programs for trucking, rigging and warehouse operations. Identify and mitigate risks associated with transportation operations, such as regulatory compliance, safety hazards, and security threats. Develop and implement contingency plans to address potential disruptions or emergencies. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of equipment, facilities, and work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including DOT and OSHA requirements. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent future occurrences. Coordinate with external agencies, such as regulatory authorities and industry associations, to stay informed about safety standards and participate in industry initiatives. Conduct safety training sessions for employees on topics such as hazard identification, defensive driving, and proper lifting techniques among other safety prevention techniques. Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries, complaints, and regulatory inspections. Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, training, and compliance activities. Prepare and submit safety reports, compliance documentation, and regulatory filings as required. Monitor performance metrics, analyze data, and generate reports to track progress and identify areas for improvement. Knowledge with SAMSARA Fleet compliance management system and electronic ELD logging FMCSA approved.

Background Required:
  • Safety Management, Transportation Industry - trucking, rigging operations and warehousing (5 years)
  • Strong understanding / federal, state, and local safety regulations (DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA)
  • Knowledge of insurance processes, claims management, and risk assessment
  • Proficiency in safety management systems software (SAMSARA preferred).
  • Familiarity with ISN Networld for contractor and supplier management.
  • Experience in conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training programs for diverse audiences
  • Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel & Outlook)
  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Location: Central New Jersey (Relocation assistance provided)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Knowledge of transportation-specific safety issues, such as load securement, hazardous materials handling, and driver fatigue management preferred
  • Familiarity with rigging safety standards and practices, including crane operations and rigging equipment inspection preferred
  • Education: College degree (Occupational Health and Safety; Transportation Management, or a related field)
  • Professional safety and transportation certification
