Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Operations Manager for a family owned and operated heavy haul carrier servicing the eastern United States.
The Fleet Planner is responsible for Route Planning: Develop effective and optimized transportation routes for the fleet, considering factors such as load size, weight restrictions, and delivery deadlines. Dispatching: Coordinate the daily activities of the trucking fleet, ensuring timely departures, arrivals, and efficient utilization of drivers and equipment. Load Coordination: Work closely with shippers, customers, and dispatch team to schedule and coordinate the loading and unloading of heavy haul shipments. Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with drivers, providing necessary instructions, updates, and support throughout their routes. Problem Resolution: Foresee, address, and resolve any issues that may arise during transportation, such as route deviations, equipment malfunctions, or delays, ensuring minimal impact on delivery schedules. Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and permits for oversized and heavy haul shipments and escort coordination. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of routes, schedules, and communication to facilitate reporting and analysis.

Background Required:
  • Fleet Planning / Dispatching – Open Deck (3 years)
  • Driver-Dispatch management; Personnel supervision
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing heavy haul transportation
  • Technology: Proficient in using dispatch software, GPS systems, and other relevant tools to optimize fleet operations
  • Computer: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Location: Winston-Salem, NC

  • Organizational skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities / manage scheduling and dispatching of a large fleet effectively.
