Job Description:
Applies knowledge in accounting concepts and principles, local and system wide policies and procedures, and federal and state funding requirements to perform duties in the following areas: graduate and undergraduate student support, financial journal preparations, Title IV, and state funding reconciliations.
Under the general supervision of the Student Business Services Supervisor, the Financial Operations Specialist
provides financial and analytical support within Student Business Services.
In Process ensuring timely financial ledger reconciliation, financial reporting, report development and analysis, and financial journal entries are accurate and comply with general accounting principles. Must be able to work under the pressure of constantly changing priorities, unanticipated urgent demands, and multiple tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Applies professional financial and accounting concepts and principles, local and system-wide policies and procedures, and federal and state funding requirements to perform duties in the following areas:
graduate and undergraduate student support and Title IV and state funding reconciliations.
- Prepares monthly reconciliations by reviewing the work of various departments to ensure their work is accurate and complete, prepares journal entries for the general ledger and various subsidiary ledgers, and analyzes data regarding updates as needed.
- Provides help preparing moderately complex reports that allow management and key stakeholders to analyze and form decisions based
on statistical data and industry trends.
- Ability to run reports in Cognos and Oracle to analyze data and identify anomalies or shift trends and communicate results verbally and in written form.
- Applies financial services concepts to administer the University's student account collections process, including the Dream Loan program. Additionally, responsible for processing late fees, initiating holds on student accounts, and processing monthly collections notices.
- Acts as the liaison between the University and outside collection agencies; analyzes components of accounts to be written off, prepares collection agency referral notices; processes files for export to collections agencies.
- Resolves collections related issues and prepares business process procedures and policy.
- Assess and recommends changes as needed to ensure financial processes maintain compliance with
federal and state requirements and internal financial/audit policies.
- Applies a wide variety of internal and external policies and regulations to address various issues such as regulatory compliance, tax implications, recovery of cash, risk management, and the organized implementation of a diverse range of financial services for students and departments.
- Functions as a resource on issues such as researching financial discrepancies and recommending and implementing quality customer service standards and procedures to affect various constituencies, including internal department clients, students, and external vendors.
- Documents procedures for financial activities.
- Ability to train staff, if needed, and create an effective teamwork environment.
Education Level Education:
Bachelor's degree Bachelor's degree in related area and one year of directly related experience
Skills Needed:
- Working knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems, such as Banner and Oracle.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and common desktop/web applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multitask in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment, and decision making.
