The Criminal Justice Digital Design (CJDD) is an initiative that allows critical information, documentation, and evidence to be available on demand to trusted justice partners, when and where they need it. CJDD improves risk-based decision making by enforcement, prosecution and corrections to support timely case resolution and improve overall public safety. In addition, CJDD provides solutions that enable remote court hearings to be conducted more effectively by allowing justice partners to access and securely exchange information and documentation electronically during virtual court appearances.
The Digital Information and Repository solution will create a streamlined, digitized process for handling and updating criminal case documents with easy access to data and information, in alignment with the CJDD goal of enabling end-to-end sharing of information digitally. The digitization of Information will introduce an electronic process for criminal case documents, allowing the easy access to data and edits to digitized documents. Specifically, it will reduce printing, use smart forms, retrieve and share documents electronically or print form as required, improve legibility, allow simultaneous viewing. The Digital Information and Repository is being piloted across criminal courthouses in Toronto. The solution may be extended to various Ontario Court of Justice locations across the province if approval is received for Digital Information & Repository province-wide rollout.
