Job Overview

We are seeking an entry to intermediate level Field Technician to support a critical infrastructure upgrade project for NJ Transit. This position involves updating Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) and Ticket Office Machines (TOMs) to Windows 11 operating systems at transit locations throughout New Jersey. Key Responsibilities

• Software Updates: Perform Windows 11 operating system upgrades on ticket vending machines and ticket office machines at NJ Transit locations
• Hardware Installation: Install, configure, and test hardware components during system upgrades
• Equipment Maintenance: Service and maintain fare collection equipment to ensure optimal performance during and after upgrades
• Technical Support: Troubleshoot basic technical issues and perform diagnostic testing on upgraded systems
• Tool Usage: Utilize hand and power tools for equipment installation, repair, and maintenance tasks
• Documentation: Maintain accurate service records, installation logs, and upgrade completion reports
• Quality Assurance: Verify proper functionality of all systems following Windows 11 installation
• Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols when working at transit facilities and around public areas

Qualifications

Required:

• Associate's degree or technical certification in Electronics, Computer Technology, Information Technology, or related field
• Basic understanding of computer operating systems and software installation procedures
• Hands-on experience with hand and power tools
• Ability to follow technical procedures and installation guides
• Strong attention to detail and ability to complete tasks accurately
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication skills and professional demeanor
• Comfortable working in public transit environments

Preferred:

• Familiarity with Windows operating systems
• Experience with point-of-sale systems or kiosks
• Basic networking knowledge
• Customer service experience
• Prior field service experience

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry equipment and tools up to 50 lbs
• Comfortable working in various indoor/outdoor transit environments
• Ability to stand, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods
• Manual dexterity for handling electronic components and using tools
• Ability to work around public transit operations and moving vehicles

Work Details

• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Pay Rate: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
• Location: Various NJ Transit facilities throughout New Jersey
• Travel: Daily travel to different transit locations as assigned (mileage reimbursed at standard rate)
• Environment: Bus terminals, rail stations, light rail facilities, and ticket offices
• Project Duration: Ongoing upgrade project with potential for long-term assignment
