Position Summary:
Field Technicians or NETA Technicians are expected to perform service, test and maintain various types of power transmission and distribution equipment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct inspections, diagnostics, commissioning, and data collection on electrical systems ranging from low to high voltage (up to 500kV)
- Test and assess switchgear and circuit breakers across low, medium, and high voltage ranges
- Carry out preventative maintenance, testing, and repairs on transformers and associated apparatus ranging from 45 KVA to 130 MVA, both dry-type and oil-filled
- Service and recondition various types of circuit breakers: low voltage (480V molded case and air-magnetic) and medium voltage (up to 15KV vacuum or air-magnetic)
- Experience with SF6 gas systems and gas-insulated switchgear is a plus but not mandatory
- Evaluate and test low and medium voltage power cables
- Operate high-voltage testing equipment such as Doble Power Factor units
- Provide start-up, diagnostics, and repair of control circuits and transfer schemes
- Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency response and act promptly when service is required
- Ensure all tasks comply strictly with applicable safety standards and legal regulations
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- At least one year of hands-on experience in electrical testing or related field service work
- Working knowledge of NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NETA guidelines
- Practical experience with medium to high voltage systems (230kV experience preferred)
- Military training in electrical power (Army Prime Power, Air Force EPP, Navy, etc.) is a plus
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel
- Able to complete detailed field reports and documentation
Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50 lbs routinely, crawl, climb, stand for extended durations, and operate in challenging field environments
