Field Service Technician

Key Information:

  • Location: Texas

  • Travel Requirement: Up to 75%

  • Pay Range: $35–$65/hr (negotiable based on experience)

Job Overview:

We are looking for a skilled Field Service Technician to perform electrical testing and field service work across various facilities including substations and data centers. The role requires a strong foundation in electrical systems, industry-standard testing practices, and a high level of safety and technical precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostics and maintenance on electrical infrastructure ranging from low to high voltage.

  • Execute commissioning and performance testing on systems including relays, switchgear, transformers, and cables.

  • Validate electrical systems against relevant standards to ensure functionality and compliance.

  • Identify and resolve faults or inefficiencies in electrical networks and equipment.

  • Perform insulation resistance, relay calibration, and other specialized testing procedures.

  • Support preventative maintenance programs to optimize system reliability.

  • Apply established testing protocols and adhere to safety practices on job sites.

  • Read and interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.

  • Keep accurate records of service tasks, results, and findings for client and internal use.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and internal teams to ensure project alignment.

  • Work in collaboration with engineers and project managers to deliver high-quality field service work.

  • Adhere strictly to health and safety policies during all site operations.

  • Maintain and properly handle test instruments and service tools.
  • Mentor and assist junior technicians when needed.



Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is preferred.

  • NETA certification is a strong asset.

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in electrical testing, maintenance, or commissioning, preferably in substations or data center environments.

  • Solid understanding of electrical testing procedures, industry standards (e.g., NETA), and power system components.

  • Familiarity with workplace safety protocols, including OSHA regulations and NFPA 70E guidelines.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities to diagnose and resolve electrical issues effectively.

  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on client service.

  • Ability to work well independently in the field and also contribute effectively within a team.

  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., perform fieldwork in varying conditions, and handle the demands of the job.

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
