A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE FIELD DEVELOPMENT & TECHNICAL SERVICE- HORTICULTURE- REPRESENTATIVE

Reporting to the Canadian Research and Development Manager, the Field Development Representative (FDR) candidate has a dual role covering field science and technical support responsibilities, focusing on horticultural applications. The FDR will conduct and/or coordinate field research with company horticulture segment products and provide technical support to sales representatives, customers, and key centers of Influence (COI’s) across Eastern Canada. This role will also support marketing and regulatory activities for horticultural product development.

You will serve as a liaison between sales, marketing, and regulatory to identify product development opportunities for the company’s portfolio of horticultural products. You will design protocols, plan, implement and evaluate replicated trials with miticides, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and biologicals, including conducting trials personally and/or managing installation and execution of field trials with contract research organizations. This includes budgeting and resource planning. This role is multi disciplinary covering all aspects of pest management related to entomology, plant pathology and weed science. As the technical resource for the assigned region, you will develop training material, participate in training sessions, and assist sales with presenting product technical features at customer meetings. Further, you will interact with key influencers (researchers, consultants, growers, and distribution technical staff) to demonstrate and provide technical expertise on product performance and new opportunities.

WORK SCHEDULE

This full-time, remote position travels frequently throughout Eastern Canada, and is influenced by the seasonality of the growing season across the region.

AM I A GOOD FIT FOR THIS EXCITING OPPORTUNITY?

As an ideal candidate for this position, you will be experienced in planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating field trials for plant protection compounds using standard field research techniques. You have advanced education- a Masters degree in agronomy, weed science, plant pathology, plant science or soil science is strongly preferred- and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in evaluation of crop protection products in Eastern Canadian fruit, vegetable and row crops. You have strong inter-personal skills and are equally skilled at communicating with fellow researchers, the sales and marketing team, and customers. The role will require a very strong technical and practical understanding of pest management practices under broad range of horticulture crops including fruit and vegetable production along with row crop production practices. You are passionate about the science of agriculture and are driven by a desire to help customers solve serious production issues using your company’s full product portfolio. You must have a thorough understanding of the Canadian crop protection industry. This position demands strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills with experience in translating detailed scientific information into practical decision-ready information for non-technical clients.
