FIELD/Bench Technician

Full-Time Position

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Field/Bench Technician to install, maintain, and repair electronic fare collection systems for public transportation. This hybrid role requires both field service work (40-50% travel) and bench-level technical work at our Chicago facility. The ideal candidate will have strong electronics troubleshooting skills, IT knowledge, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Service (40-50%)

  • Travel to client sites to install, maintain, and repair fare collection equipment
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting and system diagnostics
  • Install and configure hardware and software upgrades
  • Document maintenance efforts and complete service reports
  • Provide basic training to client personnel on equipment operation
  • Travel details and schedule will be explained during the interview process

Bench Work & Technical Development (50-60%)

  • Perform module-level repairs and component replacement on electronic assemblies
  • Read and interpret complex schematics, engineering drawings, and technical manuals
  • Use test equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot electronic modules
  • Train other technicians on repair procedures and system operations
  • Participate in training to learn new systems and technologies
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation and parts inventory

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Analyze and troubleshoot electronic device malfunctions
  • Replace components and repair modules to component level
  • Read and interpret schematics and technical documentation
  • Proficient use of multimeters for resistance, voltage, and continuity testing
  • Experience with digital and analog electronics troubleshooting
  • Software and hardware troubleshooting and upgrades
  • Knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems
  • Ability to solder and perform precise bench repairs
  • IT background and understanding of networking principles

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years experience as an electronics service technician
  • General knowledge of bus, automotive, and/or vehicle systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office products
  • Strong computer hardware and software troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with documentation systems and repair tracking
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • 2-year technical education or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment
  • Capable of working in various environments (garage, transit facilities, office)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when necessary

  • Must pass background check

  • Flexibility in shift hours and work schedule
  • Willingness to travel 40-50% of the time

WORK ENVIRONMENT

When not traveling, work is performed at our Chicago facility in a technical bench environment with appropriate tools and equipment for electronics repair and testing.
