We are pleased to have been retained by our highly entrepreneurial client in the search for their next Chief Financial Officer. This is a remote position and can be based anywhere within the United States.
The ideal candidate will bring a track record of success in entrepreneurial settings, demonstrated experience in mergers and acquisitions, and a willingness to be actively involved in the day-to-day financial operations. Responsibilities
Family Office – Real Estate, Trusts, Estates, & Other Investments
- Oversee all accounting and financial reporting for the family office, including consolidated statements.
- Manage family real estate portfolio: acquisition analysis, financing, budgeting, lease management, tax optimization, and property performance reporting.
- Monitor investment portfolios (private and public assets), preparing performance and risk analyses.
- Liaise with family members, providing clear financial communications and regular reporting.
- Lead cash flow management and liquidity planning across family entities.
Oil & Gas Enterprise Responsibilities
- Direct all financial and accounting operations for the family’s oil & gas business, including production accounting, revenue recognition, and cost allocation.
- Oversee preparation of joint interest billings, severance tax filings, and royalty distributions.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements specific to the oil & gas industry.
- Coordinate audits, reserve reports, and valuation analyses.
- Work closely with operational management to analyze and forecast project profitability, capital expenditures, and cost efficiencies.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Family Foundation
- Manage the accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting for the family foundation.
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and all reporting requirements for charitable organizations.
- Oversee grant management processes, including application review, funding, and post-grant compliance.
- Collaborate with foundation leadership on investment strategy and endowment management.
- Prepare board meeting materials and presentations on foundation performance and impact.
- Coordinate annual audit and serve as primary contact for external auditors and advisors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with exposure to family offices, real estate, oil & gas, and nonprofit sectors strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific compliance (oil & gas, foundations).
- Must have experience coordinating with legal and tax advisors to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and documentation.
- Proven ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both professionals and family stakeholders.
- High ethical standards, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
- Proficiency with relevant financial management and accounting systems.
Reporting
- Reports directly to the President and family principals and works closely with external advisors, CPA firm, legal counsel, and other key stakeholders.
Salary Range
