Family Lawyer

Salary: $90,000–$115,000 (based on experience)


Overview

We are seeking an experienced Family Lawyer to join a dynamic and collaborative Family Law Group at a well-established, independent law firm in Ottawa. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of family law matters, deliver exceptional client service, and grow professionally within a supportive team environment.

The ideal candidate brings strong analytical, advocacy, and client-service skills, and is eager to contribute to a high-performing legal team while developing their career. Both mid-level and senior candidates with proven capabilities are encouraged to apply.


Key Responsibilities

Client Representation & Legal Practice

  • Advise clients on a wide range of family law matters, including separation, divorce, child custody, support, and property division

  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings

  • Draft legal documents, pleadings, agreements, and correspondence

  • Provide clear, professional guidance and maintain strong client relationships

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across practice areas to ensure comprehensive client service

  • Participate in mentorship and professional development initiatives

  • Contribute to a positive, collegial, and learning-focused team environment

Business Development & Practice Growth

  • Develop and maintain client relationships

  • Identify opportunities to grow practice areas and contribute to the firm’s reputation for excellence


Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience practicing family law (mid-level and senior candidates encouraged)

  • Strong analytical, advocacy, and client-service skills

  • Experience with mediation or alternative dispute resolution (asset)

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional excellence

  • Bilingual in English and French (asset)

  • Proven business development experience and/or portable book of business (strong asset for senior candidates)
